The twin-engine, multipurpose, shipborne CH-148 Cyclone was developed by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation specifically for the Canadian Armed Forces. The Canadian Armed Forces' CH-124 Sea King, in service from 1963 to 2018, was replaced by the CH-148, a military version of the Sikorsky S-92 designed for maritime operations.

 

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) received the Cyclone in 2018, and since then, it has been utilized to conduct anti-submarine warfare (ASW), surveillance, and search and rescue operations from Royal Canadian Navy frigates. The helicopter also supports national and international security efforts by acting as a utility and means of transportation.
